Band

In beginning band, students will learn to play a wind or percussion instrument of their choice, such as flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, drums and mallets. The class includes basic music reading, tone production, and the care and maintenance of the instrument. Students will study and perform various styles of music throughout the year and participate in concerts, events and trips. 

Seventh grade band requires one year of previous band experience while sixth grade does not require any experience.

Advanced Band (8th grade only)

Eighth graders with two years of playing experience may sign up for advanced concert band. The curriculum will include further development of performance skills, articulation, technique, the breathing apparatus, timing and phrasing, balance and blend of the ensemble. Students will study a variety of musical styles and have more opportunities to perform in public in concerts, on trips and events, including with the award-winning Pine Creek High School band.

Choir

In this class students will be exposed to the essentials of vocal music, movement, and performance. Skills studied include the fundamentals of reading music, posture and breath control, sight reading in both pitch and rhythm, and singing a variety of repertoire selections.

Concert Choir (8th grade only)

Students will continue to develop their musical talent by learning about voice types and how they blend together in a variety of music styles, delivery formats, and languages. Students will be introduced to reading music.

String Orchestra

Students will practice and perform a variety of music to improve their musical knowledge and performance skills.  Performances and some practice outside the regular school day are required.  Students will be expected to participate in public performances, school assemblies, and events.
