Mandarin

A semester-length course in Mandarin Chinese is available to students as an elective. This course emphasizes the development of the basic speaking, reading, and writing skills of the language. In addition, students will be exposed to grammar, culture, and the geography of the country. Dialogues and role-playing activities are frequently used with students to achieve mastery.

Exploratory Spanish - semester (6th and 7th grades)

Students will explore aspects of the Spanish speaking cultures and countries.  They will learn basic speaking, listening, reading, and vocabulary acquisition through modeling, oral activities, and games.

Conversational Spanish – year long (7th grade)

Students will develop speaking and writing skills. In addition, students will be exposed to some grammar, vocabulary, and culture. Dialogues and role-playing activities are frequently used with student to achieve mastery

Spanish 1 – year long (8th grade)

Students will begin to learn (7th grade) and continue to learn (8th grade) communication in Spanish while demonstrating literacy in all four essential skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students will also acquire and use knowledge of other cultures while gaining language fluency.

World Cultures – semester (7th and 8th grades)

Students will make connections to other cultures through a variety of means. Real experiences will promote interest and inquiry about world cultures. Students will have the opportunity to explore global art and music, experience ethnic foods, and delve into other cultures through hands-on experience.
