Core Coursework
With a focus on state standards and personal growth, Chinook Trail students are assigned to an academic team for social studies and English language arts, math and science. They then choose their own exploratory courses in art, industrial tech, physical education, computer science, world languages or other areas of study.
Portrait of a Graduate
Along with other Academy 20 schools, Chinook Trail will align our competency-based learning focuses with the district Portrait of a Graduate, which aims to set a foundation for well-rounded education that goes beyond concepts and asks students to learn and apply transferable skills. Competency-based learning is part of the vehicle that makes that more possible for our students and our learning community. For us, the state standards are the floor, not the ceiling. Using both the standards and the competencies, students will be equipped with essential tools in order to deliberately develop knowledge, skills, and characteristics that will transfer to life.
Space to Soar
Project-based learning provides our Owls with the tools to soar. Through hands-on projects, real-world problem solving, and creative collaboration, learners explore their interests, take ownership of their growth, and build the skills they need to thrive setting them up for real-world success.
How Learning Applies
At Chinook Trail, adaptable learning is used in a range of subject areas and is naturally interdisciplinary. In any project, students have practical and relevant opportunities to improve verbal, written, and visual communication skills. Students gain a running start for the jobs and challenges of tomorrow.
