NWEA 8th Grade Testing
This Thursday, January 28th and Friday, January 29th -  8th grade CTMS students will take the District NWEA Winter Reading and Math Assessments. We look forward to seeing their growth from their fall test!  Students will test on their assigned cohort day during their core classes. Fully synchronous students will test remotely.  More information for our synchronous families will be sent separately. If your student will be absent, we will find a time to help them make-up their tests either in-person or remotely. Your student must have their device, headphones, and a book to read when they finish.

NEW - Absence protocols due to Illness
Please be aware of a new, hopefully easier, more streamlined way to report absences due to illness. On the main page of our website, you will find a picture of our mascot, Ozzy, wearing a face mask. Above Ozzy is a link to our current protocols for absences due to illness. Please take the time to read through this as it has important information on when students should stay home, and what needs to happen for them to be able to return to school. If you click directly on Ozzy, it will take you to the illness screening form that can be filled out online. Once the form is submitted important information on the steps to getting your student cleared to return to the school will immediately pop up. Please continue to check symptoms every morning before your student comes to school, and please continue to keep them home if any symptoms, even minor ones, are present. The link below takes you to our main page:

https://chinooktrailms.asd20.org/Pages/default.aspx

We are also requesting any symptoms that arise starting Saturday January 9 and moving forward, be reported to the school so appropriate monitoring and assessment can be made as we prepare to return to in-person learning.  We thank you all for your cooperation and diligence as we navigate second semester amid a still present pandemic.

Winter Athletics
We are excited to offer Winter Athletics!  These activities are free, but will require a sports physical for participation.  Athletics will run from February 1st until March 12th.  The forms are linked in our CTMS website under ATHLETICS. Here's the link for your convenience: https://chinooktrailms.asd20.org/Pages/Athletics.aspx To register, complete the MS Athletic Agreement and Sports Physical. These forms may be turned in at the front office, or emailed to Isabel.dinkel@asd20.org. We are accepting registration now. If you have already turned in a sports physical for Cross Country or Fall 2, your athlete is covered for the year, just let Mrs. Dinkel know that your student is participating in Winter sports by sending an email with their Name, Group A or B, and their Grade or by calling at 719-234-5823.

Students who register will rotate between physical fitness training (running, CrossFit Kid®, and fitness yoga) and sport clinics (football, soccer, basketball, and volleyball).  All activities are co-ed. In all cases, students will be assigned to a practice squad based on his or her cohort assignment. Students will attend practices only on the days they are physically present for class (A Cohort on M/Th & B Cohort on Tu/F). A detailed schedule will be published based on athlete registration.

If you have questions, please contact Isabel at the address above, or Rob Haack (Athletic Director) at robert.haack1@asd20.org.

Book Club - Sci Fi or Fantasy
Are you a Fantasy Fanatic? Then come join the Curiosity Center's January book club!
We do things a little differently in our club and choose a genre to read together rather than share the same book.  January's challenge is Fantasy or Sci Fi.

Pick a book from this genre and email Ms. Rose at elizabeth.rose@asd20.org by January 15th to tell her what you have chosen. Highly encouraged: Choose the first book from a series you have never read before!  Remember, you can search our collection in Destiny Discover, reserve what you want and come pick up at the front office. Ms. Rose will send fun activities along the way and we will wrap up with lunch and treats in the Curiosity Center during the first week of February (or you can join us remotely as well). Message your librarian at elizabeth.rose@asd20.org if you need help or a recommendation and get ready for magic and mayhem!
