2020-2021 High Trails Information
What is High Trails?
High Trails is District 20 Outdoor Experiential Education Program for sixth grade students. Students stay at High Trails, which is near Florissant, Colorado, for four days and three nights. Boys are in boy’s cabins and girls are in girl’s cabins with District 20 and Chinook Trail MS teachers in each cabin. Students attend outdoor classes called “Discovery Groups” in both the morning and the afternoon. Discovery Groups study Colorado history, geology, geography, orienteering, crafts, and many other topics. High Trails camp staff, District 20 teachers, Chinook Trail MS teachers and District 20 high school students provide the instruction for Discovery Groups. There is a Chinook Trail MS teacher with each Discovery Group at all times. This is a unique learning opportunity and is the number 1 highlight from middle school. Many students apply to return as high school instructors.
Please visit High Trails Outdoor Education Center for more information or contact Stephanie Wilcox or Andrea Varga for more information. High Trails also has an informational video and a blog.
The cost is $285.00. Fees cover lodging, meals, transportation, lesson materials, and the program itself. We believe that no student should miss the opportunity to attend due to financial need. Therefore, scholarship assistance is available. Please send an email to Tom Andrew at firstname.lastname@example.org if this causes a financial hardship for you.
Academy D20 is now offering a secure on-line payment system for High Trails through PayForIt.net. VISA, Mastercard, and electronic checks may be used with this system.
