Chinook Trail Middle School Athletic
Following guidance from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), El Paso County Public Health (EPCPH), and the Center for Disease Control (CDC), all Academy District 20 middle schools have thoughtfully and intentionally created structures within their schools to cohort groups of students, within their grade levels, to reduce exposure and the potential spread of the COVID-19 virus. Additionally, guidance from the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) further supports taking measures to reduce unnecessary person-to-person contact and maintain social distancing .
All of the guidance that has been received, and in our continued efforts to act out of an abundance of caution, all Fall 1 Interscholastic athletics and competitions have been cancelled. That said, we are in the process of considering athletics and activities that will engage our students, staff, and community in intramural/club opportunities. We will share the unique and enriching intramural opportunities that may be provided during the Fall semester in the coming weeks.
Please note that physicals will be require to participate in all school-sponsored athletics.
Intramurals are an integral part of the overall experience at Chinook Trail Middle School. The intramural philosophy is one of inclusion. The Chinook Trail intramural program goal is to learn basic concepts of the activity being offered including skills, strategies and sportsmanship.
Requirements for participation are a willingness to learn and a great attitude. Every Chinook Trail student is encouraged to participate.
INTERSCHOLASTIC SPORTS: Cancelled until further notice.
The Chinook Trail interscholastic sport teams (7th and 8th grade only unless otherwise indicated below) compete against similar grade level teams from other public schools. While every student has the opportunity to participate in the intramural program, students are selected by the coaching staff to participate on interscholastic athletic teams. A limited numbers of students can participate on interscholastic teams. Each interscholastic competition season is approximately seven weeks in length.
We are excited to offer Winter Athletics! These activities are free, but will require a sports physical for participation. Athletics will run from February 1st until March 12th. The forms are linked in our CTMS website under ATHLETICS. Here's the link for your convenience: https://chinooktrailms.asd20.org/Pages/Athletics.aspx. To register, complete the MS Athletic Agreement and Sports Physical. These forms may be turned in at the front office, or emailed to Isabel.firstname.lastname@example.org. We are accepting registration now. If you have already turned in a sports physical for Cross Country or Fall 2, your athlete is covered for the year, just let Mrs. Dinkel know that your student is participating in Winter sports by sending an email with their Name, Group A or B, and their Grade or by calling at 719-234-5823.
Students who register will rotate between physical fitness training (running, CrossFit Kid®, and fitness yoga) and sport clinics (football, soccer, basketball, and volleyball). All activities are co-ed. In all cases, students will be assigned to a practice squad based on his or her cohort assignment. Students will attend practices only on the days they are physically present for class (A Cohort on M/Th & B Cohort on Tu/F). A detailed schedule will be published based on athlete registration. If you have questions, please contact Isabel at the address above, or Rob Haack (Athletic Director) at email@example.com.
